Gabrielle Union Joins ‘We’re’ TikTok Trend, Standing Up for Disgruntled Black Women in Hollywood. Engaging in the viral TikTok trend, Gabrielle Union takes to Instagram to advocate for Black actresses in Hollywood who’ve spoken out against unfair practices. In a clip echoing the trend’s format, she highlights the industry’s confusion between prominent Black actresses and addresses the issue of box office success being overlooked, possibly referencing Taraji P. Henson’s emotional SiriusXM interview.

“I’m a Black actress and producer in Hollywood. Of course, I’ve been mistaken for  Garcelle Beauvais, Brandy, Ashanti, Sanaa (Lathan), and Nia (Long). Both Halles (Berry and Bailey), and both Reginas (King and Hall)”. This pointed out the prevalent mix-ups and lack of distinction between well-known Black actresses in the industry.

She starts the clip by walking across the lawn.

“I’m a Black actress and producer in Hollywood. Of course, our box office successes never matter,” she, reiterates, likely nodding to Taraji’s interview with SiriusXM.

Continuing her video, Gabrielle Union touched upon a sensitive topic: the disregard for the box office successes of Black actresses. Her remark, “Of course, our box office successes never matter,” seemed to be a deliberate reference to a tearful interview by Taraji P. Henson on SiriusXM, where Henson highlighted the systemic issues and disparities faced by Black actors and actresses.

In essence, Gabrielle Union utilized this trend not just for entertainment but as a platform to spotlight the challenges faced by Black actresses in Hollywood, shedding light on issues of misidentification and the undervaluing of their accomplishments within the industry.

Gabrielle Union’s Reaction on X

The actress, aged 51, turned to social media to commend the Hollywood star. This star had recently disclosed feeling fatigued from extensive effort, expressing frustration at receiving only a small portion of her deserved salary.

Gabrielle Union’s response on X to Taraji’s remarks was emphatic: “Every word rings true. Every. Single. Word. We tirelessly advocate for the next and even our generation, striving to embody the change necessary for progress. But let’s be real – it takes a toll on our mental, physical, and emotional well-being, not to mention our careers when we’re being honest (sic).”
