The first Ghanaian to attempt a Guinness World Record, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, has recently been the paramount subject of conversations. In the wake of Asantewaa’s groundbreaking Guinness World Record singing marathon in December 2023, the accomplished CEO of ASKOF Productions Limited is not resting on her laurels. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, Asantewaa revealed her ambitious plans to secure four additional records, cementing her status as a pioneer in record-breaking achievements.
Diversifying the Triumph
While the singing marathon already secured her the spotlight, Asantewaa and her dedicated team are gearing up to apply for four more records. Recognition and Beyond
The December singing marathon not only etched Asantewaa’s name in the record books but also earned her the esteemed title of Tourism Ambassador by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. Asantewaa’s diverse team, comprising eight DJs, 20 medical staff, a voice coach, timers, attorneys, and personal assistants, played a crucial role in the success of the event. Despite facing vocal challenges on the second day, Asantewaa’s determination, coupled with therapeutic interventions, led to a “miraculous recovery” and the continuation of her record-breaking journey.
Passion-Driven Pursuit
Asantewaa’s decision to attempt a Guinness World Record was fueled by her passion for music and a desire to elevate Ghanaian music on the global stage.
Her initial consideration of attempting the fastest 100-meter run in heels shifted towards the sing-a-thon, inspired by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s cooking record earlier in 2023. Asantewaa aims not only to break records but also to inspire others, especially women, to pursue their passions relentlessly.
Uniting Society Through Music
The sing-a-thon became more than a record attempt; it transformed into a concert that brought Ghanaian society together. As news channels reported over 350 Ghanaians expressing interest in attempting various records, Asantewaa expressed her joy, stating, “It was a concert that kept the society together and united. If it has inspired others to attempt other records, I’m happy about it.”
Afua Asantewaa’s journey is not just about setting records; it’s a testament to passion, perseverance, and a commitment to elevating the collective spirit through the power of music. As she continues her quest for record-breaking dominance, the world eagerly awaits the next chapter in her remarkable story.
