Australian Grant Wallace appointed Kenya Morans coach for 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers. The Morans start training next week, in preparation for the first window of qualifiers. It includes Groups B (Uganda), D (Madagascar and Djibouti), and E (Kenya). The qualifier stage is from February 19 to 27, with the specific venue not determined.
Angela Luchivya, Secretary of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF), shared that Grant Wallace joins the team’s technical bench on a medium-term contract. Luchivya expressed optimism, tapping into Wallace’s extensive experience to bring diverse coaching styles into the team. She believes Wallace has new perspectives and valuable insights into global basketball trends and competition. The KBF also plans to leverage his tactical expertise and strategic approach to the game.
Grant Wallace arrives in the country early next month. His assistants include Cliff Owuor, Ancette Wafula, and Harrison Kaudia.
Cliff Owuor and Ancette Wafula previously managed the national side during last year’s FIBA AfroCan championship in Luanda, Angola. The Morans finished in the sixth position.
In addition to the coaching staff, 13 diaspora-based players have been included in a 30-man squad. They begin training next week. Notably, Nairobi City Thunder players dominate the call-ups, contributing eight players. On the other hand, Moischers, a second-tier team, has one representative in the squad.
